| Heading west, after the first hills, Lygaria and the adjacent
village of Agia Pelagia can be seen below, 24 km away from Heraklion.
There are two organized, sandy beaches, with warm shallow waters.
There is also a large number of tavemas and hotels on the beaches,
catering mainly for foreign tourists, but also for local Heraklians
at weekends. The great advantage of both these beaches is that
they are sheltered from the north wind that usually blows in the
summer. |
