| Tylissos is fourteen kilometres from Heraklion, on the road to Anogia. It is one of the few Cretan villages that have retained their ancient name for 4,000 years! The archaeological site, where a palace has not yet been found, is located at the eastern foot of the village. Iosif Chatzidakis camed out the excavations in 190219 13. Pashley, a Bntish traveller, visited the area in 1834. He mentions that kri-kri (wild Cretan goats) were still present at the foot of the tall mountains where Tylissos is located. Today you can take a quiet walk, avoiding the main road to Anogia, and have a dnnk at the village's traditional cafes. There are also tavemas where you can have a meal. |
