It is 30 km away from Heraklion, and can easily be described as
Crete's mass tourism centre. A large number of passengers from
charter flights to Heraklion airport go to Chersonissos or Malia,
which is just after it. If you life nightlife, clubbing and wild
fun, this is definitely the right place for you.
Chersonissos town is the seat of Chersonissos Municipality, and
can satisfy the tastes of all visitors in search of an intense,
fun-packed holiday. The hotels, tavemas, bars and souvenir shops
succeed one another everywhere. In summer, the amount of people
inspires awe in those not used to crowded holiday resorts. The
bravest among you can try bungee jumping from a 30-m crane or scuba
diving in reefs and underwater caves just outside the small harbour.
Of course, the entire range of water sports is available, either
at the fully equipped-beach or at Star water park.
There is no room for complaints as regards the food available.
Besides the traditional tavernas with classic Greek and Cretan
dishes, you will also find very good ethnic restaurants with Chinese
and Indian cuisine. For special Greek and Italian dishes, and for
truly fresh fish, we recommend II Forno restaurant-pizzeria, on
Eleftheriou Venizelou Street.
In the afternoon, do not miss a walk and an ice cream or drink
in one of the many seaside cafes and restaurants on the promenade.
As for accommodation, there is plenty to choose from, both in and
outside the town, to suit every budget. If you prefer more authentic
surroundings, tranquillity and relaxation, but with high standards,
go to Palia Chersonissos, Piskopiano or Koutouloufari above the
town, truly special suggestions for your holidays. Picturesque
renovated homes, cobbled streets and courtyards full of flowers,
beautiful tavemas and cafes with wonderful views will change your
mood after the intensity of the town. A walk to each of these settlements
is definitely a must. Piskopiano and Koutouloufari are almost joined
together, and it will take you about fifteen minutes' walk to get
to Palia Chersonissos.
