| Giouchtas Archaeological - Ecological Park The Giouchtas Archaeological - Ecological Park is composed of
mount Giouchtas and Knossano (Agia Irini), Astrakiano and Kounaviano
gorges. The morphology of the western side of Giouchtas resembles
a huge inclined head, which supports the legend that the grave
of Olympian god Zeus is located on the mountain. It has been the
holy mountain of Archanes since antiquity to the present day, as
can be seen by archaeological findings. There are four sanctuaries
on the mountain, two at Psili Korfi and Anemospilia, and two in
the caves of Chosto Nero and Spilios tou Stravomiti, as well as
the Minoan cemetery at Foumi. |
