Kroussonas is a large mountain village, 24 km away from Heraklion.
There is a bank, a health , and several stores. Do not forget
to visit "Kroussaniotissa", the village's Agricultural
Home Art Co-operative, tel. +30 2810-71 1989.
The co-operative was established in 1999, and very soon became
active in the production of traditional sweets and breads, using
old traditional recipes and local produce (quince, apples, olive
oil, raisins, wine, raki, dairy products, etc.).
Quite high up above the village, there is a taverna whose view
can be characterised as one of the best in Heraklion county. Its
name could be no other than Aetovigla (Eagle-eye view!). It is
open throughout the year, offering unique moments to those who
make the effort to climb up there. A little further down you will
find an inn with traditional apartments to let, perfect accommodation
if you decide to stay in the area. If you continue uphill by car,
you will reach a plateau called Kroussaniotiko livadi (meadow),
but the road is not very good, and actually becomes very rough
and inaccessible at certain times of year.
