The beaches of Arvi and neighbouring Psari Forada are the easternmost
beaches of Heraklion County. If you keep moving east from Psari
Forada, you will reach Myrtos and lerapetra, but it is a dirt road
and you can easily get lost at the crossroads, but only for a little
while, as you need to keep heading for the coast.
The two beaches are the seaport of Ano Viannos, and are favoured
mostly by Greek holidaymakers, and especially Heraklians. You will
find many rooms to let that are suitable for families, and tavemas
with fresh fish. The bustling nightlife of other areas has yet
to make its presence felt here.
As you descend to Arvi, the sight of many greenhouses reflecting
the sun will impress you - the area is famous for its vegetables
and bananas produced early in the season. Neighbouring Psari Forada
beach is even less crowded, and has wonderful seafood tavemas with
exquisite fresh fish varieties. Make sure you reserve your fish
early, because people arrive from far away just to have a meal
here. Both
beaches are sheltered from the north wind. The meltemi wind is
never felt here, making the beaches ideal for those who dislike
the rough sea that usually dominates the northern coast.
