| The town's noteworthy Archaeological Museum (tel.: +30 284 10/
24943, 22382) is definitely worth a visit. It is situated at no.
74, Paleologou Street and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. except
Mondays. The entrance fee is purely symbolic. It is a small museum,
divided into seven exhibition rooms, and literally overflowing
with exhibits. In the first hall you will see gems of Neolithic
tombs (3000-2300 BC), and many vessels from the Minoan period.
In the second hall, a libations vessel in the form of a human body
will draw your attention. It is called "goddess of Myrtos" and
originates from the Protominoan civilization. In hall 3, many findings
from post-Minoan burial grounds and cities are exhibited. In the
fourth hall, there are gems from post-Minoan burial grounds. A
child's burial in a"pithos" earthenware jar is a special
exhibit, discovered in Krya and transferred to the Museum intact. |
