A few kilometres further down the main road, you will come to
Pachia Ammos, a coastal settlement with a large beach. You will
also find tavemas serving fresh fish.
You can camp here if you want, in the organised campsite, while
if you decide to rent a room, you will be pleasantly surprised
by the low prices. This village is also known for the antiquities
discovered in the area, as the ancient city of Knoa was built here,
and the excavations brought to light a cemetery from the late Minoan
period. From Pachia Ammos you can deviate to Vassiliki village,
where you will be able to see relics from the Protominoan period,
including the remains of a small palace.
Among the other archaeological findings, certain vessels found
here were made in a specific and unique way, and came to represent
a particular style of vessel, the 'vassilika'.
