In Lassithi County, you will find every type of organised sport, adapted to the needs of the summer penod. You can water-ski at the county's organised beaches and many of the hotel complexes in the areas of Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, Elounda, lerapetra, Istros, Makrygialos, Koutsounari.
In Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, lerapetra, Kalochorio, Kouremenos beach at Paleokastro and in Elounda, you can obtain windsurfing equipment, while pedalos and canoes are available at the organised beaches that attract mostly young people. Improvised beach volley and tennis games offer alternative forms of exercise at the quieter beaches, while proper tennis courts are available in the big hotels. You can also go horse-riding in Sissi.
Ask at the area's campsite and the equestrian centre in Kalo Chorio.
Bicycles are available for rent at the same places as motorcycles, and Sitia has an organised windsurfing centre. If you prefer basketball and volleyball, you can try a few games at Agios Nikolaos National Gymnasium.
Adventure- persons can go gliding or rock-climbing in Sitia and Havania in Agios Nikolaos. There is a paragliding course, about 300m southwest of Kaminaki village, in the Municipality of Oropedio Lassithiou, 9 km from Tzermiado.
It is 300 m higher than the village, facing north. Flights take place with northerly or northwesterly winds, and the landing area is near the vil lage. Finally, treat yourself to the enchanting underwater world of the southern coast, by articipating in diving excursions organised by the county's scuba diving centres.
