Chania County is surrounded by deep blue waters of the Cretan
and Libyan Seas and has a varied, beautiful and picturesque coastline.
Near the town of Chania, you will find the Golden Coast (Chryssi
Akti). The small bays of Agii Apostoli are perfect for a comfortable
and enjoyable swim. Swimming at Agia Marina will also amuse you
as it pulsates with young people and tourist infrastructure is
well developed. Platania beach is the busiest and most lively beach
with a youthful atmosphere. A long sandy beach awaits you at Maleme.
Akrotiri offers unique landscapes and the crystal clear waters
of the Cretan Sea can be enjoyed at Marathi and Stavros in the
bay of Kalathas. As an example, we could mention some of the many
choices offered by the southern coastline of Chania. Falasarna,
at the western end of the island has a spectacular sandy beach
and a number of smaller and isolated bays. Drepanias beach, before
Kastelli, is in an idyllic environment.
At the edge of Gramvoussa peninsula, Balos beach is of outstanding
beauty.
Elafonisi with its pink sand and the island in the middle of the
Libyan Sea to the south, Paleochora with its pebbly beach and Sougia,
a large beach with very fine pebble and infinite blueness...
Agia Roumeli, quite difficult to reach, is at the exit of the Samaria
Gorge; it can be accessed
by boat as well from Chora Sfakion. Agios Pavlos Sfakion and Iliggas,
with its emeraldcoloured waters, are surrounded by high rocks,
natural landscapes and the famous Frangokastello with its imposing
Venetian fort at the end of the sandy beach.
