Ten kilometres south of Rethymnon, you can visit Maroulas, a beautiful
Venetian village.
To reach it, you must take the road to Heraklion and turn right
at Platanias. The route is not exactly comfortable,
but you will be rewarded by the natural beauty of your
surroundings, as you cross
dense olive groves.
When you reach the village,
which is built at the foot of a hill, you will feel as if you've
travelled to another era. Its architecture has been preserved intact
since the period of Venetian rule. Treat yourselves to a wall around
the village's picturesque streets, pass under the stone arches,
and let your mind travel back in time. Pause at the square to admire
the view of the Cretan Sea.
Among other things, the village also has amazing vistas to offer.
Just outside Maroulas, in the small forest, there is a crystal
water spring, which, according to the locals, has digestive properties.
