| Starting your tour from the village of Prassies, a few kilometres
south of Rethymnon, you will pass through a vividly green gorge,
full of olive trees. You can cross it by car, but be very careful,
as the road is narrow, slippery and twisty, although it is paved.
The small village is picturesque, with houses in the traditional
architectural style. Leaving Prassies behind you, descend into
the verdant valley, with the river and Psiloritis peaks opposite
you, and take the road to Prassano Faraggi (the Gorge of Prassies),
which you can cross on foot. This gorge is no less beautiful and
ecologically important than the famous Samaria Gorge; it has rich
vegetation and is full of many different herbs and trees, such
as carob trees, walnut trees and sycamores. If you like camping
this is a good place to set up your tent. |
