| From the crossroads to Voleones and Veniou Monastery, if you follow
the second route, you will soon come across the monastery, and
if you continue south you will reach Thronos village, which owes
its name to the Episcopal Throne located there in Byzantine times.
This is where ancient Syvritos used to stand. The village is built
at the foot of the hill and has an excellent view of Mount Psiloritis.
The cathedral probably used to be located at the present-day site
of the church of Panagia Throniani, built in the I 4th century.
You will admire the remains of the mosaic floor and the plethora
of beautiful murals. The remains of ancient Syvritos, which existed
from Minoan times to Byzantine years, are located in Kefala. |
