From writings of the Koutroumousiou monastery of Ag. Orous, it appears that this monastery was founded during the era of Paliologon in 1325. In 1837, a royal order closed the monastery and consequently it was looted and burned. In 1967, it was restored and revitalized. The treasures of the monastery saved from the fires are the icons of Agia Marina (17th century) and the Holy natural of lamentation
