Rivers, Springs and Fountains

As we mentioned in the introduction, Andros is traversed by four rivers. But these are not the only ones. There are another nine which flow all year round. A total of eleven rivers combine to create waterfalls, pools, aquatic areas and to turn watermills, and this makes Andros unique in all of the Cyclades.
And there are the springs. How many? Nobody knows. Every farming community, every piece of land which can be cultivated or support livestock, has it's own spring or springs. And the water is dispersed accurately sport ween all those that need it.
Not least are the fountains. Every village, every community, almost every road junction and every chapel has it's own small fountain. All them are ancient. Many of them are quite humble in appearance, but some have decorative marble surrounds. Some have a little water and others have an abundant supply to satisfy the thirsts of travellers. One this is the island's famous fountain, Sariza, with a combination of minerals in the water that makes it incomparable.

So what can a visitor do about all these things? But of course visit them all! Localities such as Pythara, Menites, the Dipotamata, Remata, Frousai, Vitali, Achla, all have so much beauty in offer, so much shady, rich nature, and hikes, which will remain memorable.
