Korthi and its surroundings

For those of you who yearn for those not so olden times of peaceful and low cost holidays; for those of you want to experience a place, rather than just visit it; to get to know its real life traditions, and not just its tourist attractions; to walk along ancient footpaths, still used by the villagers today, and along the small roadways of beautiful, Living villages; to visit its unique pre-machinery buildings and the wonderful homes, works of great local craftsmen; to swim in crystal clear and deep blue waters. Then Korthi is the most logical choice for you.

Ormos Korthiou is the centre of the commanding cosmic and economic life of the district. And of course the centre of its tourism. Here, even the most arbitrary and demanding of tourists can find whatever they need. A choice of small, dignified lodgings, wonderful family tavernas and restaurants, and also a night life which extends to the early morning hours without in any way inconveniencing the surrounding district. Also in this centre are the necessary community facilities: the herbs al services, the chemist, banks, post office, etc. It has a regular bus connection with Gavrio (via Batsi), with Hora and also the villages of the area. Of course there are several taxis.
During recent years, the bay of Korthi has become well known as an area particularly suitable for wind surfing, so many persons of this sport gather here every year from early spring onwards.

Within close proximity to the Bay of Korthi one can visit the beautiful villages of Korthi and Aidonia, with their wonderful architecture, old fountains and Byzantine churches.
Visit the Pano Kastro, the remains of the largest medieval fortified settlement on Andros which sheltered 1000 residents. Or the Dipotamata. A stunning ravine with plane trees, wildlife, waterfalls and pools, and this is where until 1950 25 watermills were in operation! A visit to the Dipotamata is possible by using an ancient and very well preserved paved footpath. It is certain that the visit will prove unforgettable, this as well as other similar routes along old footpaths which are so plentiful in this area.
