About TINOS...

Tinos is the third in size island of Cyclades with extent 194.500 acres and population 8.000 residents. It is found north-westernly Mykonos and southly-eastern Andros, from which abstains half mile (in the point that it is said Steno).

Few history
The first residents of Tinos were Iones from the Asia Minor. Her name is considered that it emanates from the Phoenician word “Tanoth”, that means snake, whereas other people think tha it came from the name of the first resident. City of Tinos (Chora)

Exombourgo
It is a granite rock of height of 640m. in root of that, after 1700, it began to be created a small settlement that was named Exomboyrgo or Xompoyrgko, that it means from the castle (burgo in the Italian). It is the castle that in 1207 had built the Venice on the rock. It had two huge walls, the one near the top and the other lower. sport ween them, there was built the medieval capital of Tinos. Today are saved the ruins of castle, while archaeological discoveries from the region are found in the museum of Chora and are emanated from holy Dimitra and Persephone which were found here.

Kardiani
Mountainous village, that is found in altitude 260m in the mountain Patelas. The name of village is name of Panagia that was worshipped in the region and the residents named it Kioyra (Lady) Kardian. The village was built in the 17th century (1670-1690) from catholic and orthodoxe that emanated from various parts of island. Discoveries strengthen the opinion that the region was lived in Geometrical period. Triantaros
It abstains 6km from the Country and it is found in altitude 500[m]. It has splendid view in Aegean. Local titbits are served in his traditional cafes.

Falatados
It is a mountainous village in distance 10km. from the country and two kilometres from the Abbey Kechroboynioy. In the village exists the tiled Temple of Saint Ioannis with pebbled courtyard 1902. In the entry of temple is found monument to price of Falatadianon of workers that found the picture of Panagia. Here can anyone taste the Tino's omelette with potatoes fried and sausages. In Falatado is produced also the eminent Tino's pink grape.

Artists From Tinos
Tinos offered in the painting and sculptural many of the biggest artists that Greece presented.

Nikiforos Lytras (1832-1904), painter: Existed academician and teacher in the Faculty of Good Arts on 37 years. He Is considered the most important Greek painter of 19th century.

Nikolaos Gyzis (1842-1900), painter: He taught in the Academy of Good Arts of Munich and is considered, with Nikiforos [Lytra], the ringleader of Modern Greek Art.

Dimitrios Filippotis (1839-1919), sculptor: He studied in Rome and created in Athens, contributing considerably in the promotion of sculpture in Greece.

Giannoylis Chalepas (1854-1938), sculptor: He studied in the Faculty of Good Arts of Techical university and in the Academy of Good Arts of Munich. He is considered the leading Greek sculptor and his name was connected with “Koimomeni” his - sculpture of astonishing beauty - that finds in A Cemetery of Athens and shows a girl that sleeps the eternal sleep.
