One can go to Thebes and Livadia by bus or rail from Athens. Orchomenos, Chaironeia and Davlia may be visited from Livadia or in the course of the journey to Delphi if the longer route, round the base of Parnassus via Amphissa, is taken. The visit to Hosios Loukas, situated a few miles off the main road Livadia to Delphi, is almost invariably combined with the visit to Delphi by motor coach. Delphi can be reached from Athens by bus or private car in about 4 hours. There are two or three daily bus services and the distance is 106 miles. There are several trains a day (S.E.K. railways, Athens) from Athens to Livadia, whence Delphi can be reached by local bus or car in about an hour. In summer there are daily motor coach tours to Delphi from Athens. The tour lasts 14 hours. In winter the tours are made 3 times a week. From March to October there are also two-day tours (overnight at Delphi), much more preferable. Longer motor coach tours of various archeological sites, lasting 4 or 5 days, include Delphi, Hosios Loukas and Naupactus in their itinerary.
Naupactus can be reached either by car via Delphi, Amphissa and the Mornos valley (a bad road) or more directly by bus from Athens (starting from Carolou Street) in just over half a day and traveling via Corinth and the beautiful wooded northern shore of the Peloponnese. You cross "the narrows" in a ferry plying sport ween Rion and Antirion, where a local bus connects with Naupactus. Following the same route, one can go to Naupactus by train from Athens (S.P.A.P. railway) via Corinth and the Rion-Antirion ferry. A ferry boat service runs twice daily in summer from Aigion on the northern shore of the Peloponnese to Itea, where a local bus connects with Delphi, 13 miles away.
