BY AIR. Olympic Airways and BEA (British European Airways) operate daily Comet flights sport ween London and Athens. By changing planes in Amsterdam and Brussels, you can also fly by KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) or Sabena (Belgian Airlines). Olympic Airways flies via Paris and Rome and intermediate stopovers can be easily arranged.
BY TRAIN. Travelers from London have a choice of two direct , express trains:
1. The famous Simplon-Orient Express leaves Victoria Station daily at 10:00 a.m. (11 a.m. from the middle of April onward) and, via Paris and Milan, traverses Yugoslavia en route for Thessaloniki and Athens. It reaches the capital of Greece 69 hours after leaving London. This is the fastest train route.
2. The Tauern Express leaves Victoria Station in the afternoon and reaches Athens via Brussels, Munich, Belgrade and Thessaloniki in about three days.
BY CAR. Your destination inside Greece may determine the highway route that you choose from England at the outset. To reach Corfu and North-West Greece you will have to drive down to Brindisi in Italy whence a boat or car-ferry will take you across the Adriatic. If on the other hand, you want to see Northern Greece first, you can enter that country via Austria and Yugoslavia and lately, through Hungary-Yugoslavia. For cross-channel motorists the Auto-Couchette Express saves over 1,000 miles of driving. Twice weekly you can put your car in the afternoon aboard a train at Ostend (Belgium), sleep the night away in comfort, and unload your car the following morning in Munich, en route for Greece. Be sure to have all your gadgets itemized when crossing into Yugoslavia and don't carry more than 1500 Dinars per person in Yugoslav currency. In case you want to cut across Italy, another train takes you as far as Milan.
